What is crashroots?
crashroots is a community for collaborative music production and distribution. We create open source music (OSM) and encourage sharing ideas at a early stage. Contribute a song, sample or mashup to one of our ongoing collaborations. Visit the blog for daily news curated by the crashroots community and browse the ever growing list of releases. What is a release?
Crashroots releases can be many things, here is a selection of release ideas:
song ideas / full songs / unfinished songs / samples / beats / musical sequences / snippets / mashups / dj mixes
What is a theme?
Every release is related to a theme, setting the mood of the collaboration. Imagine themes as collaborative songs which grows over time. To contribute to a theme, tag your post with its name.
What is a theme mash?
Theme mash´s are songs made out of all the contributions to a theme.
How can i customize my profile?
Login or Sign up to Crashroots, its free.
Click on your avatar icon on the top of the page to get to your user site.
Change your avatar picture and update your information.
Add your Twitter, Youtube and Flickr feeds to your crashroots page!
How can i create a blog post?
Go to the blog post site
Give your blog post a title. For releases the naming convention is "Topic - Release Name (by artist name)"
Enter your post information in the the big text box. Format the text with the menu icons.
Tag your post, select some meaning full keywords that describe your post best in one word. For releases, please include collaboration name tag.
Once your done editing, publish your post to the crashroots blog. Visit the site to see it live. You can come back anytime and make changes to your posts.
How can i add a image to my blog post?
Go to the blog post site
Click on the image icon in the Add media bar
Select the image file from your harddrive to upload
or link to a image on the internet
After uploading your image, insert it into your blog post by clicking on "Insert into post".
You can simply change your uploaded images later by hovering over them with your mouse.
Optimal Image upload size is 600x310px. JPEG or PNG.
How can i add a video to my blog post?
Go to the blog post site
Embed videos from the most popular video sites by selecting the appropriate icon.
How can i upload my own music?
Go to the blog post site
Click on the download icon in the Add media bar
Insert the title of your upload
Select a file file from your harddrive to upload (320kb MP3s PLEASE!)
start the upload by clicking the button. This can take a while so be patient and do not close the browser window
Insert the link to your uploaded file into your blog post.
How can i add my music to the flash player?
Go to the blog post site
Click on the "Add Media File" Button under "podcasting"
Specify the URL of your MP3. If you´ve just uploaded the file to crashroots, publish your blog post and get your MP3´s URL from crashroots.com/blog/
Enter the title of your post. For releases please respect naming convention
Once your done editing, publish your post to the crashroots blog. Visit the site to see it live. You can come back anytime and make changes to your posts.
